Artist’s Insight:
'The Majesty' was born from my fascination with the lion’s quiet dominance — that rare kind of power that doesn’t need spectacle or noise to be felt. Among all the big cats, lions carry a presence that fills a space before they even move, and I wanted this portrait to hold that same gravity.
I built the background with layers of gold leaf to create a luminous field of light — a setting worthy of a king. As the light shifts across the surface, the gold flickers like sunlight brushing over a lion’s mane in the wild. That interplay between radiance and shadow became the heartbeat of the piece.
His expression was the soul of the painting for me. I painted him with a relaxed, almost contemplative gaze — a ruler who doesn’t need to assert himself because his strength is understood without question. There’s pride, but also gentleness; authority, but also warmth.
This artwork is a tribute to regal calm — the kind of majesty that comes from knowing one’s own power, and wielding it with grace.
