Artist’s Insight:

'The Phantom' emerged from my fascination with the black panther’s paradoxical nature — a creature that is both invisible and unforgettable. Panthers don’t simply move through the wild; they dissolve into it, appearing only when they choose. I wanted this portrait to hold that same sense of controlled mystery.

Against the luminous gold-leaf background, the panther’s silhouette becomes even more striking. The contrast between deep black fur and radiant gold allowed me to explore the tension between concealment and revelation. As the light shifts, the gold glows, while the panther stays anchored in shadow — a reminder of how beauty sometimes hides in the dark.

The expression was the most important part for me. I painted him in a moment between stillness and motion, jaws slightly parted, eyes sharp and alert. It’s the look of an animal that owns the night, one that doesn’t need to be seen to be feared — or admired.

'The Phantom' is a tribute to silent power, to the allure of shadows, and to the presence that lingers even after the figure itself has vanished.
